Adhesion rate

Jun 23, 2025|

Adhesion rate: The number of molecules adsorbed on a surface within a given time interval, divided by that time and the surface area. 53. Adhesion probability: The ratio of adhesion rate to incidence rate. 54. Retention time: The average time during which a molecule is confined on a surface in an adsorbed state. 55. Migration: The movement of molecules on a surface. 56. Desorption: The phenomenon of the release of gases or vapors adsorbed by materials. Release can be natural or accelerated by physical methods. 57. Degassing: The artificial desorption of gas from a material. 58. Venting: The natural desorption of gas from the material. 59. Desorption, venting or degassing rate: The gas flow rate (or molecular flow rate) desorbed (or vented or degassed) from the material within a given time interval, divided by that time and that surface area. 60. Evaporation rate: The number of molecules (or mass of substance or mass of substance) evaporated from a surface within a given time interval divided by that time and the area of that surface. 61. Permeation: The phenomenon of gas passing through a solid barrier layer. This phenomenon includes the diffusion of gas through solids and can also include other surface phenomena. 62. Permeability: Under stable flow conditions, the amount of gas flow through a barrier layer (such as the wall of a container) divided by the pressure function on both sides of the barrier layer. The form of this function depends on the physical process involved in the actual permeability. 63. Permeability coefficient: The product of permeability and the thickness of the barrier layer divided by the permeable surface area
