FIG. 12 shows an arc discharge ion nitriding furnace. In the nitriding furnace, the arc electron flow emitted by the hot wire arc gun on the upper right is greater than 150A. The electron flow passes through the workpiece in the process of moving to the anode on the left and ionizes nitrogen around the workpiece. High-density nitrogen ions are used for nitriding to improve the nitriding speed, and the nitriding time is reduced from 20 hours to 2 hours.

The schematic diagram shown in Figure 12 is an arc ion coating machine with nitriding and then coating. The small arc source on the left is first connected to the positive electrode of the hot wire arc gun, which becomes the anode of ion nitriding. The electron flow is attracted to ionize nitrogen for ion nitriding, and then the negative electrode of the cathode arc power supply becomes the cathode in the process of coating. That is, the small arc source is used as an anode and then as a cathode. This design concept is ingenious.
