Wear is one of the main forms of damage and failure of PVD coating. The evaluation of wear resistance of coating film is very important to control the quality of coating products. Therefore, it plays a pivotal role in the research and development and application of coating technology. Coating wear resistance refers to the ability of the coating surface to resist some mechanical action, usually measured by grinding wheel or sand impact test method, it is one of the important characteristics of the coating often subject to mechanical wear in the process of use, and closely related to the hardness, adhesion, flexibility and other physical properties of the coating.

 

Industrial developed countries have corresponding wear test methods for different materials, such as the Japanese industrial standard JISH8503 provides the relevant metal coating wear test methods;The wear resistance test of chromium electroplating coating was described in ISH8615.At present, there is no wear resistance test standard for PVD coating in China, so similar standards can only be used for testing.It is recommended to evaluate the wear resistance of PVD coating with reference to the international standard is08251-87 and the Japanese standard JISH8682.The abrasion resistance of aluminum and aluminum alloy anodic oxide film is determined by friction wheel abrasion testing machine in both standards.When testing a PVD coating, simply replace the coating on the standard test specimen with a PVD coating.This test method is under specified test conditions, the coatings and the cementing in the outer friction wheel and grinding sandpaper on planar reciprocating motion, second rotary Angle of friction wheel after each stroke (0.9), the provisions of the several times after grinding, coating thickness or coating quality is reduced, and by calculating the wear resistance coating wear resistance evaluation.Because the test conditions of this method are easy to control, and there are no other methods such as grinding wheel dressing, aging, sand flow rate, sand bundle shape and other difficult to control the problem, so the test results of good repeatability.
