Mold TD processing and PVD processing

1. TD processing and PVD processing - the kinds of the hardening layer 1) TD processing (thermal diffusion method) are certain processing temperature, put the mould in borax in molten salt and its special media, through the metal atoms in molten salt and the carbon and nitrogen atoms in the mould that produce chemical reaction, diffusion in the mold surface, formation of hard metal carbide layer thickness of several microns. At present, vanadium carbide (VC) coating is widely used. 2) PVD treatment (physical vapor deposition) is the deposition of atoms or molecules generated by various physical methods on the substrate under vacuum conditions. PVD treatment technology can change the process and target material, and then change the structure and composition of the surface hardening layer, used to prepare a variety of special mechanical and chemical properties (such as super hard, high corrosion resistance, heat resistance, oxidation resistance, self-lubricating, etc.) coating, its application is more extensive. At present, the PVD treatment technology is more used in the mold is titanium nitride (TiN), titanium nitride (TiCN), titanium nitride aluminide (TiAlN), chromium nitride (CrN), etc., whose hardness is generally lower than that of TD coating vanadium carbide.
2. TD treatment and PVD treatment - processing temperature, matrix material and preliminary heat treatment requirements 1) TD treatment is a high temperature treatment, the temperature of 900℃-1050℃, so TD treatment technology will have a certain problem of deformation, poor control may appear cracking. TD treatment of the mold material requirements are higher, generally need to use a relatively small quenching deformation of high alloy steel, such as the commonly used high chromium alloy die steel Cr2MoV, SKD11, DC53, D2, etc. In order to reduce the deformation of TD treatment, it is recommended to carry out two high temperature tempering after the pre-heat treatment. For the mold with low deformation requirement, TD treatment can be carried out directly without pre-heat treatment. 2) PVD technology processing temperature is relatively low, 400℃-600℃, for the mold its outstanding advantage is that the workpiece deformation after processing is very small. PVD treatment requires that the mold workpiece material has been tempered at high temperature. PVD treatment of the base material requirements are very high, the most commonly used is high speed steel or powder high speed steel, or high quality high chromium alloy die steel such as Cr12MoV, SKD11, DC53, D2, etc., if the material is uneven or the composition is not up to the standard, PVD coating treatment after the effect is difficult to reflect.
3. TD treatment and PVD treatment -- comparison of the bonding force between hardened layer and base metal PVD coating and base metal similar to electroplating, belongs to the mechanical combination, the binding force and surface treatment processing equipment has a great relationship with the level of technology. Regardless of the processing technology, the TD-treated hardened coating can withstand greater stress than the PVD coating without spalling.
4. TD treatment and PVD treatment - metal stamping die field application and effect comparison TD treatment and PVD treatment can be used to improve the life of the die and solve the problem of surface strain of the die. TD treatment can be used for steel plate strength 590MPa forming die and other large stress occasions, PVD coating can be used for thin plate thickness, low strength occasions. The mold with high precision can only be treated with PVD. In short, in order to improve the life of die workpiece, design + material selection + machining + pre-heat treatment + suitable surface treatment, do the right step, in order to achieve or even exceed the expected service life.
