If sunlight passes through a filter, removing the 495nm wavelength of light (blue-green light), the eye perceives a blue-green complementary color, that is, red. On the contrary, if the filter filters out the red, people perceive the blue-green. This process of removing a certain part of the light from the white light and forming a color is subtractive color mixing. The principle of subtractive color mixing is widely used in photography technology, such as when taking landscape photos, people like white clouds in the blue sky, but the photos often lose their original style, the reason is that the camera has different eyes, it has no color vision, can not feel the color of the scene, can only feel the strength of the light of the scene. Although the color of the day and the blue sky is different, the composition of the light is different, but the day and the blue sky contain blue and green light with strong sensitivity, the difference is only the light with poor sensitivity such as red and orange, so their contrast is very small, the natural effect is not good, such as when shooting, add a piece of orange filter to the camera lens, the effect is very good, because orange is the complementary color of the approximate blue sky. Most of the blue light from the sky is absorbed by the filter, but the yellow light from the white cloud can pass through, which increases the contrast of the light, and the photo effect is naturally good. The molecules of common dyes, pigments and other colored substances can selectively remove certain wavelengths of light from sunlight, so their hair color is often caused by subtractive color mixing.
