Rough Surface After Ion Nitriding

▲ Figure 8 ion nitriding discharge; FIG. 9 Rough surface after ion nitriding
Figure 8 shows the photo of conventional ion nitriding discharge. Figure 9 shows the rough surface morphology of parts after conventional ion nitriding.
As can be seen from the above photos, the surface of 520℃~570℃ ion nitriding has a bright white layer, and the surface of the parts is rough. When a titanium nitride layer is deposited on such a surface, the binding strength of the hard coating will be very low. The rough surface can not meet the requirements of the brightness of the mold surface, so the choice of low-temperature ion nitriding, generally 400℃~420℃, so that the nitriding layer only forms nitrogen hypersaturated solid solution, does not precipitate compounds, the surface is still bright, hardness can also reach more than Hv 1000. The hard coating is then deposited. The process of ion nitriding followed by hard coating deposition can be completed in one step. In Figure 5 above, we have seen the hardness gradient curve of low-temperature nitriding followed by coating. FIG. 10 shows the mold of low-temperature nitriding and then hard coating deposition. The surface of the mold base is very bright.
