The basic principle of arc plasma coating is that arc discharge is carried out between the vacuum wall (anode) and the plating material (cathode) with an arc needle under vacuum conditions. Multiple cathode spots are rapidly moved on the surface of the cathode, which is continuously rapidly evaporated so that it is ionized into arc plasma with plating material as the main component. The plating material can be quickly deposited on the substrate.
Because of the multi-arc spots, it is also called the multi-arc evaporation ionization process.
